PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Heroes of the Fourth Turning
Written by Will Arbery
Directed by Philip Akin
A Howland Company and Crow’s Theatre Co-Production

On a chilly night in the middle of America, one week after the Charlottesville riots in 2017, four alumni gather to toast their mentor Gina, newly inducted as president of their conservative catholic college. A daring look at the heart of a country at war with itself, their reunion spirals into spiritual chaos, clashing politics, and stunning revelations as they furiously grapple with their beliefs and sense of personal responsibility.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

JUSTIN (male presenting, white, early 40s): A graduate of Transfiguration College, Justin is a stoic outdoorsman who now works at the college. He straddles the line between survivalist and doomsday preparer. Character plays guitar and sings a campfire folk song in a moment of the show. Basic-Intermediate guitar playing required. Please outline your experience with guitar in your submission.

GINA (female presenting, white, 60s): A professor at Transfiguration College and the school’s incoming president. Gina struggles to sympathize with her daughter Emily’s chronic illness, and has high expectations of the former students she has mentored.

PROJECT DATES:
First Day of Rehearsal: September 4th, 2023
Opening Night: October 6th, 2023
Closing: October 22nd, 2023
